About Us

Why “Rolling J’s”?

All our growers happen to have names that start with J! The name started as a joke…and then we realized that it perfectly captured our people, our beautiful place in the foothills of the Green Mountains and, of course, our product.

“The J’s”: Our Growers

Judd Markowski and Jen Roberts

Jen and Judd grew up in agriculture and have been seeking a path to a farm income for many years. Married in 2006, together they owned and operated Daily Chocolate in Vergennes, Vermont for twelve years before selling the business in 2020. They then established an independent small trades business and have been working side by side for two years. Working together on Rolling J’s Farm is a new and happy chapter for their business and personal partnership.

Jen is highly skilled in a wide variety of functional crafts such as sewing, growing food and making pottery. Growing up on her family dairy farm in Central Vermont taught her the value of hard work and she continues to bring that energy and determination to everything she does.

Judd, who also was born and raised in Vermont, has worked in and around agriculture since the age of 15 when he worked for a neighboring dairy farm. After high school he moved to Montana and got a job drilling water wells and working on a 4000-acre hay and grain farm. Judd moved back to Vermont in 2002 and worked for a trucking company that hauled bakery and brewery waste to farms as feed and fertilizer before striking out on his own as a tradesperson and business owner.

Jen and Judd are well-known to have “green thumbs,” but they are pretty sure it is just effort that allows them to grow as prolifically as they do.

John O’Hern

John grew up on the Jersey shore, fishing and hunting with his three brothers, father, mother, and dog. His family quickly got him into nature and connected to the wildlife around him. A skier since the age of four, John can always be found at a mountain or in the woods looking to get some fresh snow in the winter time!

After graduating from high school, John decided to attend Champlain College, where he is currently studying marketing and social justice and pursuing his passion for working with cannabis, which he hopes to continue to do after graduating in 2024.

“The A’s”: Our Owners

Andrew Allen and Elizabeth Allen-Pennebaker

Andrew and Elizabeth graduated from Williams College in the same year, but did not begin dating until they were re-introduced at their ten-year college reunion. They married in 2005.

Andrew is a long-time entrepreneur who was born and raised in Vermont. In the 1990s, fresh out of college, he took on the role of president of the family company, County Data Corporation, and grew the firm from 12 employees doing $500,000 in sales to 120 people and $5M in annual revenue. In the early 2000s, Andrew founded and, together with Elizabeth after they were married, managed a small “boutique” web design and online marketing company that focused on providing affordable services to Vermont companies. In 2010, Andrew founded his current company, iMarket Solutions, which provides digital marketing services to HVAC companies around the country. After starting with a single employee in a rented cubicle, iMarket now employs 60 people in 17 states, but still maintains its Vermont home base in Burlington.

Elizabeth has a background in both academia and small business. She has two master’s degrees and a doctorate from the University of Oxford, and, after working with Andrew on their shared web design and property management businesses, she became a professor at Champlain College in 2011. In 2023, she left academia and returned to the world of business as the Managing Partner of Rolling J’s Farm.

Elizabeth and Andrew are thrilled by the opportunity that Rolling J’s offers them to do their part to sustain the working landscape of the state they both love.
